The one rule that matters: every agency on Paros prohibits taking the car on a ferry without prior written permission. Boarding without it voids all insurance and makes you liable for 100% of damage plus repatriating the car. Only three companies publish a concrete ferry product: AGGELOS, Hertz, and Sixt.
Insurance is void at sea, almost everywhere. Hertz (Ferry Boat Cover, €20/day capped €60/rental) and Sixt (Island/Ferryboat Fee + LDW, ~€30) sell coverage for the crossing. At local agencies, even with permission, assume the hull risk on the boat is yours.

Ferry logistics
- No one-way island-to-island rentals. The car must come back to Paros for the Aug 14 dropoff; Aegean even requires round-trip ferry tickets as a permission condition.
- Declare the exact islands when booking; undeclared islands can void the authorization.
- Book the ferry's car-deck slot early for early-August crossings — car decks sell out before passenger seats.
Paying with Amex points
Yes, with one realistic path. Amex Pay with Points works only on prepaid rentals booked through Amex Travel (min 5,000 points, ~0.7¢/pt), which carries the majors. Hertz and Sixt allow ferries, so: book Hertz Parikia prepaid through Amex Travel with points, then add Ferry Boat Cover with Hertz directly. Compare the Amex Travel prepaid rate against the ~$753 DiscoverCars rate first — if Amex Travel prices meaningfully higher, the points redemption isn't worth it.
For AGGELOS or LocalRent, points only work as a statement credit (~0.6¢/pt) — poor value, pay cash. Amex's own rental coverage is void while the car is on a ferry, like everything else.
Action order
- Decide ferry vs. re-rent. The all-in gap between the cheapest ferry play (~$820 Hertz) and the two-rental plan B is small; plan B has zero at-sea risk.
- If taking the car: book the Hertz DiscoverCars rate (free cancellation = free option) and call Hertz Parikia (+30 22840 28114) to confirm written ferry approval + Ferry Boat Cover on that booking before you keep it.
